Schools in Poumai villages need teachers

IMPHAL, June 5: Schools of Poumai villages don’t have enough teachers, with deteriorating conditions of school buildings and empty infrastructure, but with a surprisingly good number of students in the classes, said Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me in a statement.

The PNTM has urged the concern department to look into the matter and do the necessary action for the welfare of the students at the earliest.

A release of Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) said that they had conducted an educational tour of Poumai villages and found most of the schools as not having enough teachers, with deteriorating school buildings and empty infrastructure.

But surprisingly found a good number of students in the class.

It further said that the Keize Primary School building is half destroyed and find it hard to have classes with the rain and at the same time students frequently get sick as a result of it.

The Laii Shiraffii Aided LP School, which was established in the year 1976, has hundreds of students but there are only two permanent teachers, it further said.

As Laii Shirafii is located in a far flank of Poumai area, they could not send their children to other reputed schools. So, the school is now, self-upgraded by the School Managing Board up to class VI and they added five private teachers paid by the villagers.

They also find other government schools at Khongdei Shimphung, Chingmai Khullen, Chingmai Khunou in a similar state, it added.
