Seeds distributed to 220 farmers

IMPHAL, June 24: The Kangleipak Ching-Tam Trade Union (KACTTU under the sponsorship of Manipur Agriculture Department on Sunday distributed seeds to 220 farmers during a “Seed and Equipment Distribution Function” held at the Manipur Press Club here.

L Palendro, Director of Agriculture Department, Manipur, N Dhaneshwor, president, KACTTU, Shamu Kabui, Joint Director (P), Agriculture Department, L Ibomcha, CDO and ICDP (Rice) In-charge and Wangkhemcha Shamjai, Chief Editor, Kangleipak Meira evening daily graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

L Palendro said “Angan Phou” was abundantly produced in the state in the past but farmers have now stopped producing it as loss of profit. This is mainly because the FCS is transporting adequate rice in the state from outside, he pointed out.

All the farmers in the state should be given all the advantages and benefits if we really want to bring a change in the agriculture sector, Palendro insisted.

Chief Editor of Kangleipak Meira evening newspaper, Wangkhemcha Shamjai while speaking at the event said the Agriculture Department should provide proper guideline to the farmers in order to produce sufficient rice.

He also thanked the state Chief Minister for stockpiling fertilizer for Rs 10 crore. He, however, appealed to all concerned not to drag it into politics and urged the government to fix the rate of fertilizer.

The editor further made an appeal to Agriculture Department and KACTTU to work sincerely in the interest of the general public.
