IMPHAL, June 1: A combined team of Imphal East police commandos and 28 Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the foothill of Awaching about one and a half km west of Nongmaiching on Friday.
At about 5:20 am, a combined team of Imphal East police commandos and 28 AR led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) of Imphal East M Rajen, under the supervision of Superintendant of Police Kamei Angam Ramanus, launched an operation in the general areas of Uran Chiru, Awaching and Sadangsenba Maring villages.
During the search operation, the security team recovered the huge cache of arms and ammunition hidden in a pit near a pine tree at the foothill of Awaching, Additional SP Rajen told media persons while briefing on the recovery at his office.
The recovered items include one G3 rifle with one magazine, one Chinese live hand grenade, one High Explosive-36 hand grenade (without detonator), three lethod shells, 52 rounds of AK series ammunition, 28 rounds of M-16 ammunition, 15 rounds of .32 USM carbine ammunition, one AK series magazine, one I-COM High Frequency wireless set, one nine feet long piece of Chinese made cordex wire and three electrical detonators.
The recovered items will be handed over to the Irilbung Police Station for further necessary action, the Additional SP added.
