IMPHAL, June 17: The 5th Summer Camp 2012 organized by Soraren Repertory Theatre concluded today at the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall, Yaiskul Police Lane here.
S Videshwor, secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademy, W Mera, Deputy Director, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Budha Chingkham, theatre critic and playwright graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, S Videshwor said development of children should be started from grass root level, saying the theatre of art and culture is the best medium and that children theatre festival in the state began since last year.
Saying that students of art and culture always maintained strict discipline while being with their teachers, Videshwor noted that students in the state still practice the habit of bowing down whenever they meet their teachers as a respect to them.
He also emphasized on right parenting of children with special love and care but there are many artistes who keep tongue tight whenever they go to outside states because of language problem. Art and theatre artistes require proper education, he maintained.
Videshwor at the same time lauded L Satyajit of Soraren repertory Theatre for organizing such children summer camp. W Mera while hailing Soraren Repertory Theatre for organizing the camp wished all the children participated at the camp to become good persons.
In the past, he noted that a disciple used to learn from his teacher by staying at the latter’s house but nowadays there are plenty of theatres.
The state Art and Culture Director also informed that the department is now focusing on theatres in the state to help them.
