IMPHAL, June 19: A man claiming to have the official land papers of patta no 69 of Nagaram where he is planning to construct a shopping complex, today convened a press conference clarifying on the ownership of the piece of land which had caused a brief uproar in the locality yesterday.

Speaking to the press at the Manipur Press Club Kshetrimayum Basanta of Thangmeiband allege that yesterday a mob led by Heignang MLA N Biren tore down a board with ‘site for shopping centre, Patta no 69’ written on it, which he had erected on June 7.

He claimed before media persons that the said land papers have been in his family since 1960, however due to some financial crunch, he had been unable to use the land.

He continued that he has all the related documents regarding the land and said the locality was known as Laipham Siphai in the past which had been changed to Kabo Leikai. Now the name has been changed to Nagaram, he said.

He criticised the Heingang MLA for acting as if he had encroach upon the MLA’s own land.

He should not be involved in such incidents, when he has come out to help the people as their elected representative, he said before adding he will approach the court to seek justice in the case.
