IMPHAL, June 6: A combined team of CDO Thoubal and 42 Assam Rifles have arrested two NSCN (IM) cadres during a search operation at Pallel Bazar area at around 7 pm yesterday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jenthaingam Longmei alias Jon, 32, son of Lonbonlung Longmei of Mahabali Kabui Khul, presently staying at Tuisimi village and Thingbaijam Biren Singh, 52, son of (L) Th Dinamani Singh of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, presently staying at Pallel Bazar, a police release said.
One 9 mm pistol with two live rounds, two mobile handsets, two mobile SIM cards and one Chinese hand grenade were recovered from them, it said.
It has further said that on questioning, Jenthaingam Longmei disclosed that he is an active activist/cadre of NSCN (IM) and was trained at GSG, Hebron in the year 2008 with army number IJ 18808. He also said that he is presently holding the rank of corporal and working in Hothrong Brigade and Biren Singh is the over ground worker of NSCN (IM).
Both were arrested while intimidating truck drivers for illegal tax of the NSCN (IM), it added.
A separate release of police said, after receiving information given by 30 Assam Rifles about the presence of some UG cadres in and around Laipham Khunou area. A team of CDO Imphal East rushed to the area and conducted frisking and checking and arrested two cadres of Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF).
The arrested persons are identified as Sa Star Zimik, 35, son of Sa Mahaphang Zimik of Mapum village, Ukhrul district and Ashang Tangkhul, 25, son of Shimreisa Tangkhul of Nungsung village, Ukhrul district, it said.
An identity card issued by Election Commission of India, one mobile handset with SIM card no 8974142529 and a wristwatch were recovered from Sa Star Zimik and one mobile handset along with two SIM cards 8974142240 & 9856804453 were recovered from Ashang Tangkhul.
The release further said that on verification, they disclosed that they joined MNRF in the February 2012 through one self-styled captain Angam of MNRF. They also said that they received basic training in Burma from March to May 2012. They have been involved in extortion of money from general public, government officials, businessman etc under the command of Angam of MNRF organization.
