Wangkhei meritorious students feted

IMPHAL, June 24: A total of 456 meritorious students of Class X and XII were awarded today during the 2nd prize distribution ceremony of (L) Okram Lukhoi & Saratlata Meritorious Awards-2012 at Citizens’ Club ground, Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou.

The felicitated students include 9th position holder of the COHSEM conducted Class XII Moirangthem Sinorita Devi of Nongmeibung and 20th position holder of BSEM conducted Class X RK Ishwarchand Singh.

The ceremony was organized by 15-Wangkhei Kendra Development Forum, Mantripukhri and attended by State Assembly Speaker, Th Lokeshwar Singh, Education Minister, M Okendro and Minister RD & PR Francis Ngajokpa as chief guest, president and guest of honour.

Speaking at the function, chief guest Th Lokeshwar Singh appreciated the organizers and sponsors for organizing such encouraging endeavour for the students of the constituency.

He said organizing such ceremonies will encourage the emerging youths of the state towards education and as such we should laud the effort of the organizers.

In order to bring educational development in the state, the authorities should understand the wants and needs of the students of the state. Without human resource there will be no development in any society and as such the people of the state should put a collectively effort to bring development in the state, he said.

Only felicitating meritorious students will not bring any changes or development in the state and we should understand that today’s meritorious students could also fail in future, the state Assembly Speaker said.

Only peace can bring development in the state, people of the state should be united without any divide on community or religious lines and work towards development of the state, he continued.

People should stop thinking about their own self and start thinking for a collective good of the state, he said.

Meanwhile, RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa while appreciating sponsor of the felicitation programme Okram Henry for his effort, said Henry has done what every parent deserves from their ward.

Felicitating meritorious students by inviting them on a platform is encouraging and should be lauded by all.

Meritorious students bring laurels to the state and we should not forget that we need future leaders.

People should work towards peace to bring development in the state, the Minister said.

The Minister ended his speech with, “Let us keep our strength, let us improve our future”.

The ceremony was also attended by Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen, Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Education Director, W Rajen Singh and Ward no 22 councillor of the Ward, Ngaminlun Kipgen as special invitees.
