IMPHAL, July 8: In a continued process of rapid influx of migrants in the northeastern states of India from the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar, more than 100 Myanmarese Muslims are currently taking asylum at Moreh town.
The matter was disclosed by FREINDS President Sapamcha Jadumani while talking to IFP.
He further stated that the Myanmarese Muslim refugees from Rakhine Province fled to Moreh town in the aftermath of a violent ethnic clash. They have started to live in places inhabited by Meitei-Pangal and other communities, Jadumani noted.
Expressing deep concern over the issue of migrants in Jiribam sub-division, FREINDS President maintained that more 60 percent population of Jiribam is non-local while only 40 percent is indigenous people. A separate revenue district of Jiribam should be created only after the implementation of ILP in the state, he asserted.
The ILP system was withdrawn from the state in November, 1950. Since then, the number of migrants in the state has increased drastically. The Nepalis might also demand a separate Gorkhaland in the state, Jadumani observed.
He contended that the state could draw a revenue of Rs. 30 crores to 50 crores with the implementation of ILP in the state.
Jadumani further stated that the state government is expected to give positive response to the demand of the people by passing the ILP System at the ongoing assembly session. The Chief Minister will be declared “Public Hero” and all MLAs will be honoured if the ILP system is implemented within July 13.
He also warned the government of dire consequences if the state government fails to implement the ILP system in this assembly session. As announced earlier blockade on national highways and other forms of serious agitations will be carried out if the demand of the Manipuri people is not fulfilled, the FREINDS president added.
