3500 auto rickshaws operative in state: Transport minister

IMPHAL, July 5: Transport minister Kh Ratankumar answering to an starred question from MLA Nandakumar today stated that there are at least 3,500 diesel autos operating in the state.

He further stated that the automobiles are under strict observation from the Manipur Pollution Control Board in regard to checking of sound, noise and emission norms and the certificates are renewed twice in a year.

He mentioned that the Transport department is taking up an action to check the congestion in the streets and the thoroughfare of the diesel autos. There are presently seven parking allotment for the said diesel autos, he said.

PHE minister I Hemochandra clarified to an answer regarding the water supply schemes taken up at Andro, stated that there are 13 pump houses in the area and among them 11 are still operational, he was answering to a query from MLA Th Shyamkumar.

He also answered in regard to his department from another question from MLA M Kunjo, the minister stated that the Hiyanglam Water supply scheme is still operational and will cater to the area till 2013.

In response to a question from Moirang MLA M Prithviraj regarding the policy taken up by the state government for schools in Moirang assembly constituency, M Okendro, education minister stated that orders have been issued to upgrade, downgrade , amalgamate and abolish schools within the area.

The decision has been taken after consulting with the representatives of the local MLAs who are part of the Assembly Constituency level school re-organization committee.
