Always wanted to, but never had the time to train with youngsters: Rennedy

IMPHAL, July 16: Former international players and presently playing I-league football team Lajong FC Shillong, P Rennedy Singh opened a two day football clinic at Moirang Multi-purpose Higher Secondary school playground for 8-14 years young players.

Altogether 30 youngsters participated in the clinic, sponsored by the former international player from the state.

During the opening of the two day clinic, Rennedy distributed uniforms and balls to the children.

Speaking on his interest of coaching young football players in the state, he said his schedule has been real tight in the past 10 or so years. He has never had any long vacations to come to the state and teach the youngsters though he had wanted to.

He expressed that he had always wanted to have some time with the youngsters of the state and tell them about his own experience in the field of football.

Elaborating on weakness of the state players, he commented that the state could produce better players if ball passing, pushing and receiving are elaborated during training and coaching camps from the grass-root level.

The star Indian player was talking to a select group of media persons at the venue of the clinic.

When asked if he is interested in playing for any club outside the country, he said even if he would like to, age wouldn’t allow him to do so; he has no expectations as such at the moment, he added.

Before leaving for Lajong FC Shillong where he will be playing this season, he will be organizing such clinics at Malom and Awang Potsangbam.

Rennedy Singh was also accompanied by Citrashen, another Lajong player from the state.

During the clinic which lasted for around one and half hour, Renedy Singh train the younsters on quick ball passing, pushing and receiving. He was also assisted by his Lajong teammate Citrasen.

The clinic has been organized by District Sports Association, Bishnupur president K Yaima.

Yaima told media persons that he has been waiting since long for international players who could share their experience with the youngsters of the district.

He added that such clinics even though are of short duration will immensely helped the youngsters.

Meanwhile, Teresa, a Norwegian tourist who accompanied Rennedy also taught the youngsters on stretching and warming up exercise.
