IMPHAL, July 17: The state cabinet has stopped short of announcing drought status but it has chosen to term it as a ‘drought like’ condition in the state.
A press release from the Government mentions that it has decided to make available Urea bags at Rs 278.80 per bag by providing additional transport subsidy.
Further, a cabinet meeting held today decided that to provide a transport cum storage subsidy on Urea fertilizer amounting to Rs 4.27 crore in the current year in view of the low rainfall and impending drought like condition this year.
The urea fertilizer will be made available to distressed farmers across the state at Rs 278.80 per bag of 50kgs during the current Kharif season. The district agricultural officials will oversee the distribution of fertilizers in their ditricts to ensure sale of Urea at the notified price. The government is closely monitoring the rainfall pattern and status in the State and will take further actions as necessary to support the farming community.
The cabinet also approved financial assistance of Rs I lakh each to Olympic qualifiers namely Mary Kom,L Debendra, L Bombayla,Ng Soniya and Kh Kothajit Singh.
Really great news for the farmers and not so for all of us. With all kinds of fertilizers we used today, we all need to think about the health aspect of this and the coming generations.
