Founder`s son beats up students

IMPHAL, July 13: Students staying at the North Point Higher Secondary school hostel, Khabam Lamkhai were beaten up and threatened by the son the school founder last night.

Speaking at the press conference today at the All Manipur Students’ Union office, the students charged that G Bullu, 28 had threatened the hostellers using a gun and assaulted them in an inebriated condition at the school premises around 8 pm last night.

Recalling the incident, the boys said that the hostel warden Kenedy had called out all the 18 students staying in the hostel to line up in the verandah.

Bullu came and enquired about a scratch on his car, at which the students expressed innocence.

However Bullu did not believe them and started beating them. The students were beaten in front of the warden, cook and security at the school verandah as well as at the basket-ball ground.

Bullu threatened them not to report the incident to anyone.

The hostel houses 18 students of the school from class VI to XII. The students are from Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West and Tamenglong.

As the hostellors were denied permission to leave, they jumped out of the hostel at around 1:30am of July 13 and returned home.

Meanwhile, two of the students identified as Ngamsok of class 12 and Amei of class 9 are yet to reach their respective homes, the students further added.

Parents and guardians of the victims went to meet the school authority but were sent back with harsh words, the guardians told reporters.

Police were also already present in the school campus and they tried to divert the case, one of the guardians further alleged.

The guardians further appealed for the concerned authorities to take appropriate action against Bullu.

Meanwhile, AMSU vice president, Md Abdul Haq Shah termed the incident as unfortunate.

He further said that the student body will have a meeting with the school authority on July 14 to sort out the case at AMSU office.
