Furnitures worth Rs 50 lakh gutted in fire

IMPHAL, July 17: A fire broke out today at around 1:30 am completely burning down three furniture houses at Yaiskul Moibunglopa leikai.  Furniture worth Rs 50 lakh were turned to ashes in the fire.

The three furniture houses are run by Dilip of Thoubal Athokpam, RK Manisana of Yaiskul Janmasthan and Gopen of Wangkhei. The building is owned by RK Kumarjit, 50, son of (L) RK Luikhoi of Yaiskul Moibunglokpa Leikai.

The doors, windows and adjoining wall of the building next to the furniture houses were also damage in the fire. The next building is owned by Dr N Dwijanani, with some computers on the first floor of the building, which runs a computer learning institute, were also damage in the fire.

Manipur Police Fire Service took two-and-a-half hours to tender the fire. Short circuit could be the cause of the fire, said a member of the fire service team.
