IMPHAL, July 18: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president, Gaikhangam today inaugurated the office of the Oinam Block Congress Committee today at Oinam Bazar.

The inaugural function was also attended by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam.

A formal function of the Inaugural cum reception of the two Ministers was also held at the Oinam Community Hall after the MPCC president inaugurated office building.

Speaking at the function, MPCC president and the state Home Minister Gaikhangam said that the Congress party is one of the largest and oldest political party in the world.

The Congress aims to bring development and peaceful co-existence in the country.

The Congress is the only political party which has been working unrelentless for development of the country and it cannot be compared to other political parties of the country, the MPCC president said.

No other party can work for the country like the Congress, he continued.

Referring to the recent state legislative election, the MPCC president had also said that the general public of the state had already shown during the election its displeasure against political parties that has done nothing for the development of the state.

Expressing displeasure over the failure of the constituency to elect the party candidate in the last election, the MPCC president said the party was disappointed and believed the loss as a great loss for the development of the state.

He however expressed his belief that the people of the constituency would not repeat the mistake and elect the party candidate in the next election. He further appealed to the people to support the Congress candidate in the next state Assembly election.

With an eye on the 2017 state election, the party will organize awareness programmes to strengthen the party in the state and to bring development in the state.

He continued that the people should work together to improved individual capacity of all and bring development to the state.

The MPCC president said, in the last election, the party had won in 42 constituencies out of 60, however if the party has to win all the seats, the workers and leaders have to start working at the earliest.

He further expressed his hope that the constituency will develop fast.

Meanwhile, Minister Govindas said it is disheartening for the party that the party has lost in only one constituency out of six constituencies in Bishnupur district.

The party is for all sections of the society including the poor, rich, small communities, large communities, etc.

Now that the party has an office in the constituency, the party workers and leaders could cooperate with the general public, he said.

He further wished that the party office inaugurated by the party president would become an important asset for the party in strengthening the party.

Relying only on government jobs for employment is not beneficial to the development of the state and as such the public should find ways to employ themselves.

There are various avenues including handicrafts and handlooms through which the general public could find employment and it should be encouraged, the Minister said.

The Commerce and Industries Minister also assured that the government will set up markets for handloom and handicraft products so as to encourage handlooms and handicrafts and eradicate poverty in the state.

Manipur is to be developed by the people of the state and we cannot invite outsiders to develop it, and as such people should support the party to strengthened development in the state.
