IMPHAL, July 9: In total disregard of the Chief Minister’s order that no motor vehicles except for the Governor will be allowed entry into the historic Kangla Fort, it has become a ‘short cut’ for MLAs and state heads to avoid the traffic congestion.

It may be mentioned that Ibobi on the observation of the 7th Kangla Day held on November 19,2011 had announced that in order to preserve the sanctity of the historical area and to make Kangla a carbon free zone, entry of motorized vehicles will be banned except for the Governor.

Deriding the CM’s instruction, it is witnessed that the MLAs and the Chief Minister himself uses the Northern gate and the Southern gate to avoid the traffic and as a short cut. The western gate is used to enter the MPCC building by the Congress MLAs.

Many civil organizations including the Manipur Cycle Club had then applauded the stance of the Chief Minister which has fallen short at present .The Cycle club had even initiated a ‘Cycle for Hire’ to facilitate visitors at Kangla.
