IMPHAL, July 16: Kangpokpi MLA , Nemcha Kipgen has picked up four ADC members against their will and kept them at former ADC chairman SH Seipu’s camp.
The charge was leveled by Z Touthang, spokesperson of Kangpokpi ADC to the media at New Checkon today.
He stated that Nemcha Kipgen utilizing her legislative powers picked up the four members on July 13 and 14. The act was condemned by the speaker and said that such acts are unbecoming of a representative of the people.
Further, Lunthang Haokip who mentioned himself as the spokesperson is an elected vice president of the Sadar Hills District Congress Committee, the DCC has no spokesperson. Including SH Seipu and Lunthang, thirteen members have announced their resignation from the Congress membership on January 9 and they have no right to speak as a Congress ADC member.
The members had campaigned against the official INC candidate in Kangpokpi and Saitu constituencies and the matter was complained to the Congress high command for taking up disciplinary actions.
The reason for raising the no confidence motion against the present chairman is baseless because the expansion of the ADC government is to be carried out after directive from the MPCC. Moreover, the one and half month period for expansion is not a long period and the Sadar Hills ADC is smoothly functioning, the spokesperson said. The four ADC members who supported Haokholal Hangshing and voted for him on May 30 last and their sudden support to SH Seipu to whom they had opposed is found highly unreasonable. In the regard the signatures of the 4 ADC members namely Paojalet Touthang, SK Koireng, Bhumi Prasad and SK Vaiphei should not be counted.
The spokesperson added that under the circumstances, the no confidence motion is not acceptable and the present chairperson will continue administration in the Sadar Hills.
It may be mentioned that the said four ADC members on July 15 had mentioned to the media that they had defected to Seipu’s camp and joined in to raise the no confidence motion as they had the majority of 14 members.
