IMPHAL, July 9: The Khuman Lampak Sports Complex will soon be upgraded, said Youth Affairs and Sports, Director H Deleep during the closing function of the Open Hockey tournament yesterday at the Khuman Lampak, Hockey stadium.
The sports complex was constructed for the Vth National Games in 1999. However the government is yet to upgrade the sports complex, he had said at the function.
The government is processing a project to upgrade the complex and it is hoped that the complex will soon see a facelift in the next two or three years, he had said.
Continuing on the issue, he had said that the life span of the hockey turf has already run out, and the authorities are considering providing a roof over the VIP gallery of the hockey stadium.
If the stadiums located inside the sports complex could be upgraded, the problems faced by the state regarding organization of national level championships and coaching camps could be dealt with, he continued.
At present the authorities are unable to accommodate players from outside the state during any national level sports meets. He had also expressed his belief that the state players could outdo themselves if the present state of the sports complex is upgraded.
The government has already started construction of mini sports complexes, track and field grounds and indoor stadiums in some districts and the government will soon start construction of the same facilities in the remaining other districts to encourage sportspersons.
He had said considering the inconveniences faced by sportsperson from the other district including the hill district to come to Imphal for their trainings and practices in their filed, the government had started the construction the mini sports complexes in all districts of the state.
The ongoing project will encourage the sportspersons of the state and produce more internationally and nationally acclaimed sportspersons from all districts of the state, the Director had said.
He had further encouraged communication and cooperation between the state association of all sports disciplines and the district associations to improve the quality of our sports persons.
