Lanheiba freed, lodged in AR camp

IMPHAL, July 13: KCP (MC) leader Lanheiba Meitei has been released from the Sajiwa Central Jail today and lodged at a 30th Assam Rifles camp to initiate tripartite talks with the state and central governments.

He was released this evening at 6pm and taken to the AR camp by a convoy of the AR.

It may be mentioned here that the IFP had first reported that the central government is preparing for a peace pact with the militant outfit KCP (MC) last month.

The militant leader who was arrested by Assam Police from Bishnu Rabha Path of Basistha in Guwahati on June 28, 2011 was granted bail by the NIA on July 9, however due to his failure to furnish his bail surety his release was deferred.

In a brief talk with media persons during his release from the jail today, the militant leader said the step for talks was taken up considering peace and stability in the state. The militant leader was answering to media persons.

He continued the talks will continue based on the honesty and sincerity of the state government.

Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the National Investigating Agency (NIA) not to raise objections in the bail plea of Lanheiba after which the militant leader was granted bail.

IFP had also reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs, government of India, Joint Secretary, Sambhu Singh had stealthily arrived into the state capital on June 9 and held talks with concerned state officials regarding the preparation for the signing of the ceasefire pact with the militant outfit.

The militant was received by his family members and people from his locality on his release.

His mother appraised the government for the action and expressed happiness over the new development.

It may be recalled that the self-styled secretary of military affairs Lanheiba Meitei was arrested by the Guwahati City Police from Basistha in Guwahati on the night of June 28 of 2008.

The KCP-MC group headed by Lanheiba has been charged with the Ragailong blast of October 21, 2008 which left 17 people including surrendered UGs and injured over 30 others sustained injuries; and planting of a Maruti car fitted with explosives inside the Imphal Raj Bhavan on September 19 2009.
