IMPHAL, July 18: A sit-in-protest was staged today by the locals at Singjamei MayengbamLeirakMachin, protesting against agun attack at the residence of Dr Nongthon, Professor of Ortho Department, RIMS, by suspected militants yesterday at around 8:30 pm.
Condemning the incident, local MeiraPaibis of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai and Singjamei OinamThingel, Social Development Organization, MayengbamLeikai and Eikhoigee Club, OinamThingel staged a sit-in-protest against the gun attack at the residence of Doctor Nongthon.
“Stop demanding huge amount of money from the people in the name of revolution,” said a protester.
Sources said that a militant group has reportedly served a demand note of Rs 20 lakh from the doctor.
