IMPHAL, July 4: Representatives of the High Court Bar Association Manipur today submitted a memorandum to the Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid through the Lok abha MP from the state Dr T Meinya at New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that the association has been on a cease-work strike since June 10.

The memorandum includes demands for selection of atleast seven judges for the proposed separate High Court of the state and that all judges are selected from among the bars and benches of the state.

Speaking to IFP over the telephone, association president Senior Advocate N Kumarjit said the memorandum was handed over to the MP around 3pm this afternoon.

Elaborating on today’s meeting with the MP from the state, the president also said that along with the memorandum, the association has also submitted the different resolutions taken by the association since June 8 on the issue.

The team led by the president had left Imphal on July 2 and include association secretary M Roshni Piba and Senior Advocate Hijam Nabakumar (HNK).

He further said that the team is awaiting a personal appointment with the Union Law Minister which is being coordinated through the state MP.

However, since the Union Minister is out of the national capital on some official engagement regarding the upcoming Presidential election of the country on July 19, the Union Minister is yet to confirm the appointment.

They will be in the national capital for the time being as the Union Minister has already assured through Dr T Meinya about the appointment.

Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that normal proceedings of the Guahati High Court Imphal Bench had resumed after its annual summer break from July 2, however the ceasework strike of the association has completely stalled the workings of the court.

The team before leaving the state on July 2 had met and urged the state Chief Minister and the Law Minister to seek an appointment with the Union Law Minister.
