Manipuri Olympian`s presentation ceremony held

IMPHAL, July 24: Laishram Jasobanta incentive award for Manipuri Olympian’s presentation ceremony was held today at Manipur Press Club organized by People’s Awareness for National Advancement (PANA) and Laishram Foundation.

The incentive awards were received by the family members of the five Olympians of the state namely, Boxer MC Mary Kom, Archer Laishram Bombayla, Lifter Ngangbam Sonia, Boxer Laishram Devendro and Hockey Player Kh Kothajit, as they have already left for the Olympics.   

The function was attended by L Nandakumar Singh, MLA of Uripok A/C, Konsam Langamba Meitei, former president of UCM, Sharatchandra Thiyam, poet/writer and Leihaothabam Sharat Sharma, political analyst and former president of AMWJU as the chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.

Speaking at the function, L Nandakumar Singh lauded the organizer for encouraging the five players, who are representing the country at the London Olympics 2012, by giving incentive awards.

He further continued that it is also necessary to find out which type of games suits the most in the state. And to promote sports in the state, a joint effort is very much needed from each and every one in the state.

He also wished the five Olympians of the state to win medals and bring laurels to the state.

Konsam Langamba Meitei, who attended the function as the guest of honour, said that it is a very proud moment for the state as five players of state are participating in the London Olympic 2012.

He further said that the state has been made famous not by those MLAs or ministers or wealthy people but by these sport personalities who have represented the state/country in national and international level events. So, we must support and encourage these five Olympians of the state and others who are yet to come.      

He also appealed the state government to provide uninterrupted power supply during the Olympic Games.
