IMPHAL, July 27: As in the previous years, the Manipuri Students’ Federation is all set to observe the martyrdom of Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang on August 16, at THAU Ground to mark the 8th anniversary of his death in the fight against ASPA 1958.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at its office at Tiddim Road, Keishampat today.

Speaking to media persons, general secretary of the student body RN Koireng stated that the preparation for the observation is in full swing.

“Campaign for the said event is in full swing and the public will come to know of its development in a day or two”.

Seeking full public cooperation in this regard, the student leader said campaigning in the form of posters, banners, pamphlets and leaflets will be used.

The event will be successful only if public cooperates in this regard, he added.

The morning of the event will be mark with public paying floral tributes at Bishenpur bazaar where Chittaranjan set himself on fire.

Floral tributes will also be paid at his crematorium at Takhel Leikai, Kwakeithel.

After paying floral tributes at Takhel, a silent peace rally will begin and proceed to THAU Ground where a public meeting will be held, said Koireng.

It may be recalled that Pebam Chittaranjan set himself on fire while the country celebrated its Independence Day.

He did so in protest against the imposition of AFSPA in Manipur.

On the next day, August 16, he succumbed to his injuries.

Further, the Manipuri Students’ Federation also announced that it has adopted a new head letter and receipt of the organization with effect from the day its new executives had taken office.

It also asked the public to be aware on the development.
