Manipur,IMPHAL, July 29: A three-day workshop on preserving Meitei culture concluded today at the office of Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre (MTDTSPC), Lalambung Makhong.
The workshop, “Yellongeidagi Shamdarakpa Meitei Yagoigi Phijet Leiteng amadi Matamgi Ahongba”, was held in the light of the cultural convergence that is seen as a threat to the traditional cultural practices. The workshop mainly focused on how to safeguard the true Meitei culture from erosion.
While Kumarmani Angom, a custom expert spoke on the inaugural function of the event, Konsam Kunjaras and Daikho were the resource persons on the second day.
An exhibition of Meitei traditional items like clothes, musical instruments and other customary things was displayed as a part of the exhibition.
The valedictory function was attended by Mutuwa Bahadur, an eminent researcher and culture expert as the resource person of the function. In all, thirty boys and girls from different backgrounds participate in the workshop.
The three-day workshop was convened and sponsored by the director of MTDTSPC Elam Indira. It may be noted that Indira is also a senior lecture at JN Manipuri Dance Academy, Imphal.
