Monsoon Floods: death toll mounts to 116 Assam’s situation worsens

In Assam, flood water of Siang, Laali and Jiadhal rivers today submerged 315 villages in Dhemaji district, forcing the people to take shelter at relief camps and high embankments. The movement of vehicles also disrupted as flood water washed away a portion of National Highway number 52 at Bhebeli in Dhemaji district.

Meanwhile, death toll in recent flood and landslides mounted to 116. Another 16 people remained untraceable so far. Official report said that rescue and relief operations are in full swing. Around 3 lakh people of 12 districts have taken shelter at 536 relief camps.

The National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Army, CRPF so far evacuated 3 lakh 70 thousand people.
