MPCC serves ultimatum to Kpi ADC

IMPHAL, July 26: The leadership crisis of the Kangpokpi Autonomous District Council took a new turn with the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) giving an ultimatum till tomorrow to the ADC members to sort out differences.

It may be recalled here that, the present crisis came with 14 members out of 26 demanding confidence vote of the incumbent chairman Haokholal Hangshing.

Congress party sources said, the Vice-President of MPCC Dr Chaltonlien Amo and General Secretary Victor Keishing sat together with the 20 surviving members of the Kangpokpi ADC yesterday to thrash out differences at the Imphal Congress Bhavan.

Mention may be made here that, out of 26members of the ADC 6 of them are either suspended or expelled from the party.

In the meeting Chairman Haokholal Hangsing had reportedly left the final decision to the MPCC while the faction led by Sh Seipu sought Hangsing’s ouster or if it is not is possible a third person be chosen as the new leader.

As the meeting failed to arrive at a consensus, the MPCC leaders gave time till July 27 to either sort out differences among themselves or face consequences.

Highly placed sources said that the party is even contemplating supercession of the ADC in the event of a deadlock.

Haokholal Hangshing was elected as the chairman of Kangpokpi ADC after Sh Seipu lost the confidence motion on May 30.

The 14 members who are demanding confidence vote are Lamkholen Kipgen, Lunthang Haokip, Sh Seipu, Thanggoulun Kipgen, Thangjamang Kipgen, S Khuptinthang Vaiphei, S Khupsong Koireng, Kaikhosei Lhouvum, Paominlen Kipgen, Bonthaulung Panmei, Roingam Thanga, Haokholen Guite, Paojalet Touthang and Bhumi Prasad (Vikash).
