IMPHAL, July 10: As a progress towards the peace talks between the Indian government and KCP (MC), the Special NIA Court has granted bail to Lanheiba Meitei.
Earlier the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the National Investigating Agency (NIA) not to raise objections in the bail plea of Lanheiba.
Better known as Lanheiba Meitei, Khwairakpam Brojendro alias Khelen alias Gopendro alias Lanheiba, 40, son of Sorangou alias Kesho of Kairenphabi Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district was arrested by Assam Police from Vishnu Rabha Vashista on June 11, 2011 and later brought to Imphal on July 3 last year.
Lanheiba who is presently lodged at Sajiwa Central Jail was produced before the Special NIA Court in Guwahati yesterday and was granted bail. However, there was none to give the surety bond. He was again asked to make his prayer before the same Court on July 12.
The KCP (MC) leader was brought to Imphal at around 3 pm today in a Kingfisher flight by Jailor Hemanta and SI Sanayaima.
According to a reliable source, Lanheiba will carry on the peace talks with the Indian government at Assam Rifles Camp after his release from the jail.
Meanwhile, the NIA has registered a case against the general secretary of UPPK, Ningthoujam Shanti alias Chinglemba, 45, son of Surendrakumar of Sagolband Wahengbam Leikai, finance secretary Langpoklakpam Inaocha alias Birjit, 40, of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, Battalion commanding officer Major Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba, 36, of Hiyanglam and Captain L Jiten, 38, of Karimganj in Assam. However, the trial of the arrested UPPK leaders will be done in Imphal. The Camp Office of NIA in Imphal will handle the case. They will be produced before the NIA Court in Imphal East.
