Old age pension

IMPHAL, July7: The Chingamakha Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup has decried the lack of government initiative towards payment of pension under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme to the beneficiaries.

Under the scheme, an identified beneficiary is entitled to Rs 400 per month to be paid before the 7th day of each month of which the Centre will pay the Rs 200 while the other Rs 200 will be borne by the state government.

To the dismay of the beneficiaries, they have not only been deprived of the central share but the state share is also being held up. Instead, the beneficiaries have been paid a paltry sum of Rs 800/1000 only for a period of 10/11 months.

Most of the beneficiaries have already opened bank accounts as per the directive of the state government.
