Police lacking in investigation:DGP

IMPHAL, July 17: State DGP Y Joykumar has stated that the police department is lacking in conducting investigations and criminals are sometimes let off at large as a result.

He was speaking at the commencement of a 2 Week Special Investigation course for Investigation Officers held at the Banquet Hall, 1st Batallion Manipur Rifles today.

The inaugural function was attended by high ranking officials of the police department and other trainees in the rank of ASI, SI and above.

The DGP further mentioned that the police have been emphasizing on control of the law and order situation in the state and hence criminal investigation is left lacking. Stating that investigating officers mainly focus on which particular section of the IPC needs to be mentioned in the case, “Sometimes attention is not given to the oral or written report by the IOs, they only concentrate on which section the case will be registered under”, Joykumar added that officers should be detailed in registering cases and conduct further investigation to nab the criminals.

Due to lack of case material and investigation abilities, criminals get bail easily, he said. The training is conducted to specialize the IOs in utilizing means and properly carry out case investigations, he said.
