IMPHAL, July 2: Under the sponsorship of Times Music, an album titled “ Our Story” sung by popular folk artist Guru Rewben Mashangva was released on Sunday at Hotel Classic.
Hailing the songs of the album as extraordinaire, Ratan Thiyam stated that the elements depicting our identity, tradition under the theme of peace is one of the most successful projects so far.
“The songs are about our identity, tuned with a flavour of folk and contemporary music, it is well composed and the lyrics deserve applause”, he said.
Further mentioning that with the advance of globalisation, propagation of traditional music and instruments has started to decline. He stated that the most important threat today is the threat of losing one’s identity. “Folk tradition is mostly handed down through music, presently folk music and instruments disappear with the intrusion of technology”, he added.
Ratan stated that the north east has no dearth of talents but the lack is of exposure and proper marketing of the talents which is a huge effort in itself.
“The theme of the songs are important.Where is the solution of this chaos ? sometimes music provides an answer”, he mentioned on a philosophical note.
The evening saw renditions from Rewben Mashangva on stage with his son Saka, and Yumnam Sammi.
Hole of Fame featuring Vivek at lead vocals, Thoudam Devdutta,Sammi and Fringes with Doctor Haraba at lead vocals further enthralled the gathering.
With reference to the title song of the album ‘Winning Peace Together’, premier Event Management group of the state Oriental Pumpkin with Guru Rewben is organizing a north east tour with the objective of bringing together the ethnic communities through Music
