Speaker erases ruling MLA Erabot`s speech

IMPHAL, July 4: The Manipur Assembly session was today afternoon enlivened by a verbal spate between a Congress veteran MLA Yumkham Erabot Singh and the Speaker Th Lokeshore Singh during the discussion for grants.

The heated exchange of words began as soon as ruling MLA rose to participate in the discussion as the Speaker tried to give his ruling. Even as the Speaker tried to intervene Erabot continued with his tirade.

His speech was later expunged from the proceedings of the house on the grounds that it contained defamatory, indecent and undignified words.

The house today passed seven different demands amounting to Rs 11,86,93,54,000.

The demands are State Legislature Rs 33,91,08,000; Council of Ministers Rs 4,51,24,000; Secretariat Rs 59,68,03,000; Municipal Administration Housing and Urban Development, Rs 2,34,18,60,000; Election, Rs 5,02,78,000; Planning, Rs 8,09,61,81,000; and Tourism, Rs 8,16,03,000. 

During the discussion Opposition Leader Dr Ibohalbi said that the state government has not able to provide jobs for our educated youth leading them to leave their home state in search of job.

The people are expecting a lot for this government as it has won the election with absolute majority.

He further said that the officials at the Secretariat are biased while dealing with the opposition party MLAs and ruling MLAs.

Participating in the discussion Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar said that with the improvement of law and order in the state, the state has been witnessing many foreign tourists.   It is quite embarrassing when they visit the tourist spots at Kaina, Andro, Yairipok and other places in the state.

Later, the house unanimously agreed to pass the demands.
