IMPHAL, July 14: Star Volunteer’s Corps, SVC Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai and Manipur Young Arms Sports Association, MYASA, Khagempalli jointly organized a reception of several arm wrestlers and officials from the state who had participated at the 36th National Arms Wrestling Championship held at Mizoram from May 1 to 5.
The reception was held at the Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai residence of the state team’s manager Ronel Singh.
Altogether 60 member team including officials and players had participated in the said championship.
The state women team was adjudged the overall women’s team with 120 points.
Out of the six Champion of the Champion category, the state team bagged three.
The champion of the champions are S Aruna Devi for junior girls in the weight category of 70+ kg, S Inao for Senior Women’s in 80+ kg and Th Sarat for Master Mens in 100 kg.
Chief guest of the reception function, Controller of technical education, Kh Rajchandra lauded the state team for bringing laurels for the state. He added that it would have been more complete if the Men’s team had also managed to bring the overall title like the women’s team.
He further expressed satisfaction over the players bringing laurel for the state.
The function was also attended by SVC president Kh Raghumani and MYASA president Kh Bijen Singh as president and guest of honour respectively.
The main highlight of the function was the distribution of citations to the players and the officials.
Addressing the keynote address of the function, Manipur Armwrestling Association secretary K Saratchandra Sharma said Manipur has been bagging the team champions in previous editions of the national championship.
He added that however the difference in points between the team champion and the runners’ up has decrease over the years, which means that the state players need to put in more effort in case they want to achieve the same in the future also.
Meanwhile, the state team brought home nine goals, six silvers and nine bronze.
