IMPHAL, July 14: Five sub-junior boys today sealed their places in the finals of their respective categories on the opening day of the state level boxing championship at the Khuman Lampak Boxing Stadium.
The 2nd Sub Junior, XIX jr, XXIV Senior Mens, 1st Sub-Junior, V Junior and XI Senior Womens state level boxing championship, 2012 commenced from today organized by the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association.
The championship is attended by boxers from five districts- Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Churachandpur and the National Sports Academy, NSA Khuman lampak and the Manipur Police Sports Club.
Altogether 218 boxers are participating in the championship.
In today’s semi-final bouts for sub junior boys L Kajengnanba Meitei, I/W defeated H Banti Singh of CCpur in the D-30 kg category, while, L Biyanda Singh, Tbl defeated N Bobosana Singh, I/E in D-42 kg, A Ronaldo Singh, I/E defeated Th Somorjit Singh, CCpur in the D-34 kg, H Kishan Singh CCpur defeated N Malemgnanba in D-44 kg, while Myson Moirangthem, Bishnupur defeated T Roshan Singh, NSA in the C-36 kg.
In the sub junior girls quarter final bouts today, K Bina Devi, Bishnupur defeated K Nanao Devi, Tbl while M Geetarani Chanu, CCpur defeated M Ibechaobi Devi, I/E in the A-46 kg.
Meanwhile, in the sub junior boys quarter final bouts, L Suraj Singh, NSA defeated n Dhaneshwor Singh, BPR in D-40 kg, H Pulinkumar Meitei, Tbl defeated M Bikram Singh, Bpr, in B-46 kg, T Meiteingamba Meitei, NSA defeated Th Rocky Singh, I/W in the A-52 kg, N Jiten Singh Bpr defeated Th D Achung Chiru Thanga, CCpur in A-52 kg, A Maikel Meitei, I/E defeated S Kevendish Singh, I/W in A-54 kg, Don Hmar, NSA defeated M Meekson, Tbl in A-54 kg, M Netajoy Singh, I/E defeated HB mohring, CCpur in A-57 kg, L Chinglensana Meitei, I/W defeated L Johnson Singh, Tbl in A-57 kg, L Santhoi Singh, Tbl defeated L Jackson Singh, I/W in A-60kg while S Dayananda Singh I/E defeated N Bimol Singh, Bpr in A-63 kg.
B Kuknalim of NSA received a work over due to the failure of K Surchandra Singh, I/E in A-60 kg in the sub junior boys category.
The opening programme was attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Uripok MLA, L Nandakumar Singh, Works/Transport Principal Secretary Ram Muivah and ADGP, (int) V Zathang as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
The championship will continue till July 19.
