10 women injured in baton charge

IMPHAL, Aug 2: At least 10 women were injured during baton charge by the personnel of Assam Rifles and police at Tuibong Bazar in Churachandpur district today.

A large number of women stormed at 27 Sector Assam Rifles near peace ground at about 1 pm demanding unconditional release of SoO signatory KNO/KLA leader TK Stephen Kuki who was arrested by Assam Rifles from Tuibong Bazar today at around 12.30 pm.

The injured women were admitted at Zion clinic at Tuibuong Bazar. Though some of them received minor injuries, one indentified as Deikhinieng, 50, w/o Lhunthang of Jangnomphai sustained head injuries and had to be given four stitches .

Another Hatkhonieng , 45, w/o Hemkholal of Buoljol village received head and knee injuries while another Chongpi , 20, d/o Seijang had chest pain and breathing problem while being injured during baton charge.

Meanwhile, the Home Secretary of KNO/LLA K Wingson said that the SoO groups are without arms and have not violated any of the ground rules.

He said the a C-in C is in the rank of a brigadier and cannot not be arrest at will. The matter will be tabled at the next JMG meeting, he aded.

In later development,the C-in C was reportedly released at 6:50 pm this evening.
