15 days remand for KCP Nando

IMPHAL, Aug 16: A court has granted 15 days police remand for KCP faction leader Thokchom Nando allegedly involved in the grenade attack at the Thongju Pechu Lampak residence of Ahongsangbam Mobi, President of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) on August 10.

The infamous under-trial prisoner Th Nando was on Tuesday by the Imphal West police from the premises of the Imphal Central Jail, Sajiwa in connection with the grenade attack.

As Nando was produced before the Duty Magistrate Y Lothar today, the police request for 15 days remand was granted for facilitating investigations.

During police interrogation the KCP factional leader disclosed that just as the police team arrived at Sajiwa on Tuesday he had called up his lawyer and he disposed off the mobile handset along with the sim card at the prison toilet, according to reliable sources.

Sources further said, police conducted a search operation inside the premises of the Imphal Central Jail along with the Duty Magistrate and found the mobile handset from the toilet.

It may be recalled here that, a group calling itself KYKL-MDF had threatened the editors for refusing to publish one of its statements containing various allegations.

Following the grenade attack on AMWJU President, state journalists had staged a rally in Imphal and Imphal based newspapers had ceased publication on August 12.
