Manipur, IMPHAL, August 19: “I am a mother of two, if I can, why can’t you?” London Olympic bronze medal winner, Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom said today during a reception function at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
She said if the state players are spirited enough and hardworking than they can also bring Olympic medals. She further urged the state players to work harder and bring laurel to the state.
She had said that her medal winning effort had been strongly helped by the blessings and support from the people of the state.
She also thanked her coaches Khoibee Salam, L Ibomcha, Kishan and Narjeet for helping her to reach where she is.
While expressing her gratitude for the warm welcome, she said the crowd turn out to be more than her expectation.
She also expressed her satisfaction and happiness over the government’s acknowledgement of her achievement.
Meanwhile, Weightlifter Ng Soniya Chanu while speaking to media persons after the end of the reception ceremony gave her full credit to her coach L Anita.
She said she grew up in a poor family and due to her family’s financial shortcomings, she was unable to practice much.
However, her coach L Anita sent her to UP and introduce her to some of her friends who help her play for the state in the year 2000.
Happy with her performance, the UP government appointed her as a Sub Inspector with the UP Police in 2001.
And now she has reached the rank of Inspector.
Boxer Devendro who lost out to Ireland’s Paddy Barnes in the 49 kg Olympics boxing quarter final said he was unable to talk to anybody for around 5 days after his defeat.
Urging the people to keep supporting him in the future too, he said he will try his level best to bring home the Gold medal from the Rio Olympics.
He further expressed his unhappiness over his inability to satisfy the people of the state by winning a medal and said he hope to go along with other players of the state to the next Olympic and bring back medals.
Laishram Bombayla told media persons, she had tried her level best to bring back a medal but unfortunately failed to do so.
She said she have already participated in two Olympics, nonetheless she will try to participate in the next Olympic and bring back a medal for the state.
