IMPHAL, August 30: An angry mob today stormed JNIMS hospital after a 25-year-old woman died in delivery related case. Police fired smoke bomb and lathi charged to control the mob. During the process, two policemen and more than eight persons were injured.
Accusing the doctors for negligence in conducting their duty, the angry mob including women folks stormed JNIMS this morning at around 9.
The deceased person has been identified as Ngangom Renubala, 25, wife of Ng Nanao, 28, of Loushangkhong in Imphal East district.
Speaking to media persons, Nanao who is the husband of deceased person narrated the incident.
He said that yesterday around 10 am the couple visited JNIMS for a check-up and returned home. But later in the evening at around 9 pm she was admitted at JNIMS as her condition deteriorated. The doctor advised him to go for a CS birth as there might be complicacy in the normal birth. Taking the doctor’s advice she gave birth to a girl child at around 11pm of the same day.
He continued that after the operation she was moved to Unit 3 of Gynaecology Ward in JNIMS. But today early morning at around 3:30 am, she complained about her health and her family members informed the hospital staff on duty. But no doctor came to see her, he said.
He further continued that they informed the on duty staff again and again as her health condition deteriorated but they did not see any seriousness from the staff. At around 5 am she succumbs to her sickness. Doctors arrived at the scene after she was expired and after some time they went missing, he added.
Meanwhile, a press conference was call in today afternoon at Manipur Press Club, where formation of a JAC in regard to incident was informed to the media persons.
The convenor of the JAC, Haorungbam Samananda speaking to media persons listed out the demands. The JAC has demanded the government to pay ex-gratia, provide compensation for the child till the child reaches maturity, provide an adequate job for her husband and punish the concern doctor.
He further added that they will not claim the death body if the demands are not met.
MLA of Lamlai A/C, Biren has also initiated the matter to the Chief Minister.
