Assam’s violence: Around 20,000 people return home in affected districts

In Assam, around 20 thousand people have returned homes so far in the violence hit districts of Kokrajhar and Chirang. Official sources in Guwahati said that as the situation has been improving in the Bodoland Territorial Areas District, BTAD, a few relief camps have already been closed .

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday said that all the displaced people will be sent home by 15th of this month. Around 30 security pickets have been set up to maintain law and order situation. A total of 104 security pickets will be set up at vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, five people have died at the relief camps in Chirang district. Assam government will go for a detail reports to know the exact cause of death.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, APCC President and Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita announced to provide 50 lakh rupees for relief and rehabilitation works. He will visit Dhubri district today to take stock of situation .APCC sources today said that all the Congress MLA including two independents, will also contribute one lakh rupees each for relief measures.

The party will also urge its MPs including Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh to provide relief fund to the violence marred districts from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund.EoM.mps.2-8-12.
