Bribe slur for prepaid recharge

IMPHAL, August 16: In the midst of the power drive of the Electricity Department, there are complaints of the electricity officials charging money from pre -paid consumers on unreasonable grounds.

IFP found that the incident took place near the prepaid consumer cell of the Keisampat Power House today at about 12.35 pm. A resident of Paona Bazar came to purchase a recharge coupon of Rs 500 to the cell, there a form was filled up and given to an employee called Sushil. The form was referred by the mentioned to another official who after checking the account stated that according to the ledger, the line was disconnected in February 2012.

The customer had replied that the prepaid line was used for the last four months after clearance of the former bill which had amounted to Rs 45,000 and it was not the first time he purchased the recharge coupon.

The officials mentioned that the matter can be cleared up by meeting SO Debeshwor or if the customer wants to skip the formalities, a sum of Rs 200 should be given to them for immediate redressal. The receipt for the extra charge will be given to the customer on purchase of his next recharge coupon. The undue charges were given by the customer.
