Cabinet discusses drought

    IMPHAL, Aug 6: The prevailing drought like situation of the State was reviewed in a cabinet meeting held today. A press release by Sumant Singh, secretary to the Chief Minister states that the rainfall has been monitored of the last ten days and sowing of rice has suffered in approximately 30 percent of the cultivable area of the state.

    The cabinet also approved an action plan to supplement irrigation facilities by distributing 400 pump sets to farmer societies in rainfall deficit areas. It also approved taking up of an action plan to support Rabi crops in areas where sowing has suffered. Supporting cultivation of Rabi Maize, Pea, Mustard, Wheat, Hybrid paddy in approximately 34,500 acres of area through distribution of high yielding variety seeds, fertilizers, PP chemicals and imparting training to farmers will be conducted.

    The expenditure of the approved plan will be 11.06 crore and will be funded under RKVY.

    Meanwhile, the suspension of operation between the Govt and Kuki outfits has been extended for three months and one year for Lallumba of the KCP.
