IMPHAL, August 19: The All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association, Imphal observed the 7th Private School Day at Hotel Imphal, North AOC, today.

The observation was attended by former vice chancellor, Manipur University, Dr IS Khaidem, AMRPSWA president Memcha Chanu and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur Secretary Dr H Nabachandra Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour, respectively.

Speaking at the observation, Dr H Nabachandra said quality education could be brought only after the government schools and private schools go hand in hand.

He expressed that from this year the Class XII exam will be conducted through the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, CEE.

He continued that in the past years there were only around 18000 to 19000 students appearing in the exams conducted by the council; however this year more than 30000 students will be appearing in the exam. Around 20000 students have also enrolled in class XI this year.

The secretary continued that “the state council cannot remain conservative” and would have to change according to the time.

Elaborating on the importance of making education a free zone, he said, quality education could only be achieved by making the sector free from all pressure.

He said there has been a steep increase in the number of students of the council coming for verification certificates which indicates to the increase in the number of students going outside for jobs.

He elaborated that in the previous years, there were only 5/6 applications for such certificates per month in the past, however from this year, the number of applications have drastically increase to around 80/90.

AMRPSWA, advisor Doren Khaba while addressing the observation said, “Our state seem to be going backward rather than going upward”.

He said the in the present education system of the state, modernization of private schools seem to be in the front.

Though the present state government’s education policies are commendable, however the government seem to be oblivious of the various loopholes present in the policies, he said.

He further urged the state government to turn its attention to the private schools instead of just concentrating to the private schools.

While reminding that CC higher secondary, Johnstone higher secondary school and the likes were once private schools which were taken in by the government while they were doing well, he further lamented the inability of the government to take in the various private schools which have done well today.
