Computer thieves arrested

IMPHAL, August 9: Three young boys in their late teens and early 20s were paraded before a team of state media persons today for their alleged involvement in the stealing of computers from Imphal College, Azad High School, Malom, Mekola Gulab School.

The three identified as Thokchom Sumanta Singh, 21 son of Sunil, Laishram Tomba, 19 son of (L) Ibomcha and Wangkhem Kamikumar, 21 son of Tomba all from Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai alongwith the computer sets recovered from them were paraded at the Singjamei Police station this evening.

According to the OC L Santosh, Tomba and Sumanta were nabbed from the Imphal College campus by the locals of the area at 6:30pm of August 7.

The locals were alerted by the college chowkidar who raised an alert after discovering the three inside the college campus.

The locals later handed over the two to the SIngjamei Police, the police officer told media persons.

He continued that the third accomplice was arrested from his residence, following disclosure from the two during police interrogation.

Soon after the three were collectively interrogated, the computers were also recovered along with the equipments used during the robberies. 

The items were recovered from different places.

The OC told the media persons that the three had kept the robbery items at different locations including at some of their friends’ places to evade detection.

The recovered items include ten flat screen computer monitors, two inkjet printers, one CPU, two UPSs, three keyboards, one woofer set along with cables and other small accessories.

Equipment recovered include hammer, pliers, knifes and a burner to melt the key locks.

Meanwhile, the Singjamei police have registered an FIR case against the three for trespassing.

It is also believed that the Nambol Police will also be taking up its separate cases against the three as Azad High School, Malom, and Mekola Gulab School falls under its jurisdiction.
