IMPHAL, Aug 5: An 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence today at around 9 am.
The deceased girl is Chanam Gyaneshwari, daughter of Manglem of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai in Imphal East. She is the eldest of five children studying in the 12th standard at Advanced Innovative Modern School (AIMS), Khongman.
The incident happened when the girl was alone in the house after her parents went out to the fields and her siblings went to their aunt’s place for watching television. She allegedly hanged herself in the middle room of the house by using a loin cloth. She died shortly after she was admitted to JNIMS Hospital.
Reportedly, Gyaneshwari had an altercation with her lover over mobile phone minutes before she committed suicide.
The dead body was later handed over to the family members after conducting postmortem examination.
