Girl handed over to mother

IMPHAL, Aug 3: A nine year old girl who was held by her step mother at Hojai, Udaipur, Assam was today handed over to her real mother through the Imphal East SP.

According to a police source, a team of the Porompat and Heingang police including women personnel had set for Hojai yesterday to take custody of the child following a court directive. The child has been handed over to her mother today, the police informed.

It may be mentioned that Saikhom (n) Naorem (o) Roshini, 30 was demanded Rs two lakhs by her husband’s second wife, Moirangbam Thoibi of Hojai, Udaipur in return for her nine year old daughter.

It may also be added that Roshini had visited Thoibi this April to Hojai demanding her daughter’s custody, however it was denied instead, Thoibi demanded to either bring her husband or a sum of Rs 2 lakhs in return for her daughter.

Roshini approached the Cheirap court through a petition following which the court sent a summon.

Acting on the Court order, the police team had left for Hojai.

Meanwhile, WAD secretary Sobita appreciated the police for taking up the action.
