IMPHAL, August 14: The Hockey Manipur under the aegis of the Indian Hockey Federation will be organizing the 64th Senior National Hockey Championship (men) for the North East, 2012 at the Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium.
This was informed by the Hockey Manipur secretary Th Manihar Singh during a press conference at the association’s office.
He further informed that teams from the neighbouring states of Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and host Manipur will participate in the tournament.
He also added that the association will soon dispatch an invitation to the Assam state association.
The state team is undergoing various preparations in connection with the tournament, he said before adding that several state players playing outside the state will be asked to represent the state team.
He continued that the winner of the tournament will represent the region at the final round at Delhi.
He further lamented that state player Kh Kothajit was unable to make to the playing 16 at the London Olympics.
He further said that people are thinking whether there was any politics behind his exclusion from the team line-up even though he was in the playing line-up of the Indian team during its qualifying matches.
He said Kothajit had also scored several goals during the qualifying matches.
He further appealed to the government and the Manipur Olympic Association to look into the issue.
The conference was also attended by members of the Hockey Manipur.
