IMPHAL, August 31: The drive to identify and arrest illegal immigrants in the state continue today at several parts the city including Khwairamband bazar, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal, Thangal Bazar, Uripok and Thangmeiband.
The drive began yesterday after home minister of Manipur, Gaikhangam directed that all illegal immigrant from across the international borders be identified, isolate and arrest them.
A large number of security personnel were involved in the recent drive where non Manipuri from certain areas of Imphal were collectively loaded in trucks and transported and later screened at the Bengali High school Imphal.
A total of 440 mon Manipuris were subjected to verfication and today a Nepali of Nepal origin was identified and arrested.
It may be recalled, ever since the drive yesterday, a total of 43 illegal immigrant including 24 Bangladeshis and 19 Burmese Muslims were arrested after the drive launched yesterday at certain areas of Hatta Golapati and Lilong.
