IMPHAL, August 17: The two leading teams of the Imphal East 1st Division Footbal League Citizens’ Club, Soibam Leikai and UPAA, Kyamgei were locked in a 1-1 draw today.
Playing the first match of the seventh round of the league at the Khuman Lampak Football Practice ground, the two failed to score any goals in the first half of the match.
Kiran of points leader UPAA scored the first gaol of the match in the 76th minute to put more pressure on the Soibam Leikai club.
The scoreline was equalised just three minutes after the UPAA goal by L Kiran.
The 1-1 scoreline remained the same till the end of the match awarding a point each to the two teams.
UPAA is leading Citizens’ Club by one point with 17 points in hand while, CC has 16 points. Both clubs have two matches each to play.
Four of the UPAA players were booked with the yellow card and according to the tournament conduct rules, UPAA will have to pay a fine of Rs 5000. Tournament rule says that four yellow cards amount to mis conduct play and the team has to pay a fine of Rs 5000.
The four players cautioned are Ak Rajnikanta (53rd), Karnajit (66th), Hemba (67th) and Anand (80+2nd).
S Krishnan of CC was also booked with a yellow card in the 80+2nd minute.
In the second ground match, NESU, Khurai defeated SSC, Porompat by 2-1 with David (18th) and Jojo (61st) scoring for the winning team.
The lone goal for SSC was scored by Yarsok in the 61st minute.
NESU scorer David was booked with a yellow card in the 9th minute of play.
NESU has 13 points while, SSC has seven points with two matches more to play.
