IMPHAL, Aug 5: The JAC against the abduction of Irungbam Irabanta Meitei by NSCN (IM) to launch various forms of agitation in the state starting from tomorrow.
This was said by Takhelambam Ramananda, co-convenor of the JAC, during a press meet at Manipur Press Club today.
He further said that on July 30 the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister giving a detailed report on the incident and five day time was given for the government to take action.
However, there was no response from the government which has left the JAC to start the agitation starting from tomorrow, he said.
The JAC condemns the state government for not able to provide any information regarding the case.
A meeting of the JAC and other civil society organizations including COHAR, HERICOUN, UCM, IPSA, NIPCO, PAREM and Porompat Meira Paibi Lup was also convened today to discuss on the various agitations to begin from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, wife of Irabanta, Madhubala, who was also present at the press meet, told media persons that on June last, TCC, a civil society organization based at Ukhrul, took Rs 10,000 from Irabanta’s family to find his whereabouts and to negotiate with NSCN (IM) and bring him back home. Later, the organizations told that they had tried negotiating with NSCN (IM) but NSCN (IM) has rejected it.
It may be mentioned here that a Maphou Dam contractor Irungbam Irabanta Meitei, 38 son of (L) I Kerani Meitei of Nongdam Maning Leikai, Lamlai PS has remained traceless since May 27 after being allegedly called by NSCN (IM) operatives for talks.
He had set out from his home on his Maruti Gypsy accompanied by one MK Winner of New Salem.
It may also be mentioned that the JAC has been blaming NSCN (IM)’s hand in the case and demanding from the government to find out the truth.
