IMPHAL, Aug 4: An administrative building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel was inaugurated on August 4, 2012 at Monsang Pantha village of Chandel district.
St. Nunghlung Victor, MLA, 41 AC, Chandel, Manipur; Dr. S. V. Ngachan, director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam Meghalaya; Dr. M. Premjit Singh, Director of Extension, CAU, Imphal and Dr. A. K. Singh, deputy director general, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi have graced the occasion as chief guest, guests of honour and president, respectively. Dr. A. K. Singh, DDG (NRM), ICAR unveiled the inaugural stone of KVK, Chandel. One exhibition organized by ICAR was also inaugurated by St. Nunghlung Victor, MLA, Manipur. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Tamenglong and Ukhrul), Horticulture Mission (MM I) of ICAR and different SHGs and NGOs collaborating with KVK, Chandel displayed their technology and exhibits in the exhibition.
The inaugural function was started with welcome address by Dr. N. Prakash, joint director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre. St. Nunghlung Victor, MLA as chief guest congratulated ICAR and KVK team. He also expressed that collaboration with ICAR will definitely help the farmers to overcome the drought like situation in the district. Dr. M. Premjit Singh emphasized the resource maping, mobile agri. clinic, post harvest management, water harvesting and crop diversification through Integrated Farming System. Dr. S. V. Ngachan, director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya elaborated the journey of KVK, Chandel since its foundation and explained the importance of crop diversification through maize and pulses crop. He also emphasized the convergence of different KVKs and State Departments to combat climate change. In the presidential address, Dr. A. K. Singh emphasized the importance of technology intervention particularly in the field of forage cultivation, water harvesting, Integr
ated Farming System, farm mechanization and Natural Resource Management. He also suggested that KVK staff should devote 25% of their time to prioritize the farmer’s problem at grassroots level.
In the programme seeds of different crops were also distributed to the farmers. The programme was ended with deliberation of vote of thanks by G. P. Kabui, programme co-ordinator i/c, Krishi Vigyna Kendra, Chandel, a release of the ICAR said in a release.
