Manipur University conducts INSPIRE science camp

IMPHAL, August 6: Manipur University conducted one INSPIRE Science Camp under the INSPIRE Internship component of the INSPIRE programme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India at Manipur University campus, Canchipur from August 1 to 5.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspire Research (INSPIRE), is an innovative program of DST for attracting young talent to take up a career in science and introducing them to the joy of research and innovation. One of the schemes is to organize science camps for 11th standard students, just prior to the time when they make their career decisions. One hundred and fifty four students from various schools participated in the camp. The program in the camp includes discussions/interactions with resource persons, walk-talk, science movies, lab experiments, lab visits, fun with science and demonstrations.

Among the distinguished Resource Persons who interacted with the campers mention can be made of Dr VV Patel, Scientist, Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore who was one of the designers of the light combat aircraft of India; Prof Amit Roy, Director in Inter

University Accelerator Centre, Prof Kankan Bhattacharyya, Director in Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Prof SP Adhikary, Head of Centre of Biotechnology, VisvaBharati University, Prof ArunChattopadhyay, Centre of Nano Technology, IIT etc.

On the last day a Cultural and camp fire programme was organised from 4.30 pm to 9.00 pm in the Centenary Hall, Manipur University.

The 4th INSPIRE Science camp will start on August 7 with an inaugural function at 11 am in the MIMS Hall-1 Manipur University with Prof IS Khaidem, former Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University as the chief guest, Dr Shekher C Mande, Director NCCS and Prof SK Acharyy, University of Calcutta as guests of honour. The camp will close on August 11 with a Cultural programme.
