Manipur, IMPHAL, August 28: The Coordinating Committee (CorCom) of seven militant outfits, KCP, KYKL, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK, wishes the people of Manipur on the occasion of freedom fighter, Haipou Jadonang Memorial Day on August 29.
According to a statement of CorCom, after Manipur was merged under the colonial British rule in 1891, the indigenous people of hill and valley faced untold suffering from the colonial rule.
During this time of suffering, Haipou Jadonang, who was born at Puilon (Kambiron) Kabui Khul on Imphal-Cachar road, stood for the downtrodden people. He took great role in inspiring the people to fight for their freedom from the colonial rule.
He was arrested for revolving against the British govt and kept at Tamenglong Jail for few days. But after his release from the jail, people’s trust for him grows stronger and his fight for freedom movement also grows stronger.
Subsequent to the widespread uprising in the area, the British initiated plans to bring down Haipou Jadonang. He was again arrested from Cachar and from there he was taken to Imphal Jail.
On August 29, 1931 he was hung infront of the public at Imphal Jail. Since then, the indigenous peoples of Manipur has been observing August 29 as the freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang Memorial Day.
CorCom further stated that different indigenous communities of Manipur has been living together undivided with love and brotherhood since time immemorial. Today let’s refresh this brotherhood and unity and dig into our history to know our roots are the need of the hour.
“Leaving behind our differences let’s bow down our heads to pay tribute to this freedom fighter,” it appeals.
